Fiona's Background
Graphic designer, artist, photographer.
I didn't actually plan to design books! I studied graphic design and thought I'd be designing corporate packages for law firms and annual reports for junior mining companies, given my years of experience first as a legal assistant and then as a geologist's assistant (and subsequent marriage to said geologist).
But fate would choose otherwise. In 1995, I was given the opportunity to design and produce a full-color illustrated book, and that was the beginning of a wonderful path down the road to publishing.
After years in the publishing business, designing books is still my passion. Books come in all shapes and sizes, with a wide variety of subject matters. Every book is different. I've had the privilege of helping many authors realize their dream of publishing a book, and never get tired of sharing the creative process.
I studied Fine Arts at Simon Fraser University and Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and continue my studies today to stay fresh. I enjoy sculpture and working three-dimensionally, as well as photography and collage. Here's my artist's statement:
